Description

Advanced Studio is a capstone-style course for experienced students working in painting, drawing, or both, who are ready to move beyond technique and into the deeper questions driving their practice. Designed for those with a solid grasp of both realist and abstract approaches, this course shifts the emphasis from how to make an image to why—challenging students to define, articulate, and refine the intent behind their work. With a focus on independent projects, in-progress critique, and one-on-one mentorship, students will develop a more cohesive body of work while investigating the conceptual, aesthetic, and personal motivations that inform it. In addition to the independent work, we will have regular demonstrations and exercises covering more advanced media handling and manipulation. Advanced Studio is ideal for artists seeking to clarify their voice, push the boundaries of their process, and begin thinking seriously about how their work fits into a broader artistic conversation.

This class will cover the following topics:

• Develop a cohesive body of work that reflects both technical skill and conceptual depth.

• Define and articulate the motivations, themes, and questions driving your creative practice.

• Refine your visual voice through independent projects and sustained in-progress critique.

• Deepen your ability to make intentional choices and push beyond habitual approaches.

• Engage critically with your own work and the work of others through mentorship and group dialogue.

Tuition: $370
